Businesses: Mandatory Direct Deposit from CRA

The Government of Canada is switching to direct deposit for all payments that it issues. It is proposed that CRA will not longer issue cheques after April 2016. While there is a bit of “wiggle” room, we recommend that you get signed up in order to avoid delays in receiving funds from CRA.

If you are a business and receive at least one of the following payments from the Canada Revenue Agency, you can sign up for direct deposit:

  • corporation income tax refund
  • goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax credit
  • refund of excise tax or other levies
  • refund of payroll deductions

How to sign up

Online

As a business owner or representative with Level 3 (delegated authority) authorization, you can start or update a direct deposit online. To manage your business tax affairs online, log in or register for My Business Account or Represent a Client.
